Markup stress-test note
Boilerplate: this note collects every markup construct the note engine supports (or honestly doesn't). See also the note about light, Workflow: the sketchbook, a self-link edge case and a broken link ghost note — it must stay a draft link, never an error. The old post next door: Тестовый пост в блог.
Inline markup
Bold, italic, bold italic, inline code, code with a ` backtick, ~~strikethrough~~, entities: & «guillemets» © …, superscript, subscript, <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>C</kbd>, emoji and bidi: 🎨Tools 中文 日本語 مرحبا עולם.
Hard break with a backslash —
second line. And two trailing spaces here:
third line.
An empty heading below — also an edge case:
Links
A plain external link, an autolink https://ahven.art, an internal link to another note, to the site root, a reference link, and a bare URL: https://example.com/bare.
A linked image — a figure wrapped in <a>, a deliberate edge case:
Lists
A tight list:
- first
- second
- nested
- third level
- nested
- third
Ordered:
- one
- two
- two-one
- two-two
- three
A loose list with a second paragraph:
an item with text
and a continuation of the same item
another item
Quotes
A simple quote.
A nested quote with bold and
code.— someone wise
Code blocks
def hello(name: str) -> str:
return f"Hello, {name}!"
A four-backtick fence with triple backticks inside:

No language:
just text
indented
An indented code block:
four spaces
every line
GFM without plugins: table, task list, footnote, glossary
| Column | Other column | | ------ | ------------ | | cell | cell |
- [x] done
- [ ] not done
Text with a footnote[^1] that degrades into a link without the plugin.
[^1]: the footnote turns into a junk href — by design.
Term : A definition (definition list, also without a plugin).
Heading edge cases
A setext heading of level two from dashes
A setext heading of level one from equals
A second ATX # heading in the body — only the first title h1 gets stripped:
Second h1 in the body
A regular h3 after that
h4
h5
h6
HTML and rules
<div class="raw-html-block" data-edge="case">Raw block HTML with <em>inline</em> inside.</div>
Inline HTML: a <span data-x="1">span</span>, a <br> break, and a comment <!-- which disappears -->.
Three flavours of rule:
Media
A pair of frames separated by a blank line — it must still become a carousel (grouping ignores blank lines): the first is a wiki embed with an alias caption, the second without.

A standalone image in plain Markdown with alt and title — not a carousel, because text surrounds it:
Text before.
An external picture (the URL does not start with media/, hence a plain <img> without srcset):
.
Broken embeds — the files do not exist, expect media-missing but never an error:
